Seki: Top 5 Tracks

Five tracks from Seki that connect family memories to modern dancefloor moments.

Seki gives us a selection that weaves together personal history and dancefloor momentum, from South African influences that shaped early musical memories to contemporary producers pushing boundaries in lockdown bedrooms. Each track here carries cultural weight alongside club functionality, whether it's discovering anonymous Australian talent or hearing childhood favourites reimagined for the club.

Rich Daddies - Get Close

This track is off the first physical record I purchased for myself. Hearing it for the first time was unreal, the smooth rhythm just draws you to groove. Although it is influenced by UKG and bass, It reminded me of Kwaito songs I got introduced to in my childhood. Love to slot it into my sets as a warm up track because it goes so well with Amapiano tracks. Discovering that the Get Close EP was a debut disc by anonymous Australian (Melbourne) housemates made in Covid lock down made it even more special.

Joy Orbison - em & aitch

Joy Orbison’s sound has always been a sound I’m constantly drawn to. He never fails to take listeners on a journey, through the spoken word within tracks or simply the tempo as done in this track. Em & aitch is a track that’s very funky/club and one to get the momentum going.

Malaika - Destiny (Kwamzy 3 Step Remix)

This track goes a long way back with me. Malaika is a South African Afro pop group I grew up listening to. The track Destiny was introduced to me by my Mum and when we would have family parties you were bound to hear Destiny and many more Malaika tracks. To add kwanzay is such a cool dj/producer creating such great music. Hearing this 3 step remix by Kwamzy for the first time felt so nostalgic and has now become a track I always play.

Dj Mujava - Township Funk

If you play this song for a southern African they’ll be screaming! This track is my go to when I want to go back in time and also back in time for my people it’s a groovy funky song that makes you just wanna dance and can never go wrong in the middle of a set out of nowhere or even as a nice close.

STATE OFFF - MANDOZA

Nothing but respect and love for STATE OFFF and to put it simply the track MANDOZA brings the energy and speaks volumes.
