77 Selects: Dave Stuart DJ Set - Tresor 22nd July 2017

77 Selects is a new series where we hand-pick the best old, new and classic mixes from some of our favourite selectors for your listening pleasure.

Dave Stuart is the man behind Something Else – Sydney’s long running party series and

beloved record store in Newtown. A beloved staple in our local scene, over his career Dave

has also played in some of Berlin’s most esteemed clubs.

For our very first selection, we delve into SoundCloud’s archives to bring you a live recording

of Dave’s 2017 set at the infamous Tresor. Kicking off with some melodic off-kilter

breakbeat, Dave then delivers a trademark set of immersive techno.

In his own words:

“So, Tresor...how can I express the pure panic, anxiety and then jubilation of this gig? I’d

already been fortunate to have been playing regularly at clubs in Berlin every summer,

including a few mid-week parties at Tresor, but I was shocked when I was booked to play

there on a Saturday night alongside some of my favourite artists.

Following a full blown panic attack, I pulled myself together and got to the venue early to

sound test. The basement there is just epic - low ceilings, cages, smoke, strobes, and the

sound...oh the sound!

I put my first record on, and the crowd filled in. I put my head down and put all that nervous

energy and anxiety to work and played my heart out - the result you can hear in this

recording. It was a very emotional experience and one I’ve forever been indebted to my

friend Mareen for arranging.”
